‘Godfather of AI’ shortens odds of the technology wiping out humanity over next 30 years

   once again, the problem isnt AI but the misuse of AI to fuck over the working class.

   saw a comment once that said “capitalism is self-correcting, the 99% have had it too well for a long time and AI makes it possible for the 1% to own everything and owe the 99% nothing”. AI is not the problem, its just that AI is used to primarily generate profit for the billionaires. every “oh it has an utilitarian reason” is either a byproduct or made specifically to keep you thinking its not only being used to generate profit and minimize costs for a company.

2. I really don’t get where he is coming from. As long there is no big paradigm change in the field, and everybody continues to obsess over large language models, I seriously doubt that AI is ever going to reach the state of becoming “Intelligent”. We are in the stage of diminishing returns of LLMs now; as long as people continue to only throw more compute and data at everything (and that’s as far as I can understand what OpenAI is currently doing), and we see no great theoretical advances, there will not be as big an improvement between the coming models and the current models as there was between  GPT-2 and GPT-3.

   In the coming decades, the greatest and only meaningful threat to humanity will be humanity itself (and environmental problems, of course, but let’s place that under the heading of humanity because we are the prime cause).
