I live in the states, and when you convert currency, and measurement units we’re paying about half here and it’s expensive where I live, and I’m bitching about how it costs me the equivalent of about €40 to fill my 1.7L civic.
This chap will say anything – optics, optics, optics.
Lets see him actually do something for once.
VRT and Carbon tax need to be abolished with immediate effect
‘may’
“might” doesn’t help though, does it?
Leo is some man for the mights as was going tos.
A classic Varadkar test balloon. He’s testing the waters..
Is this the thread where the Irish govt are meant to suppress world oil prices somehow?
It’s ‘Must’ Mr Varadkar, not ‘May’
Come on Leo quite talking and get it done.
The government should do free insulation upgrades for houses instead, would be a better use of the money. Ireland isn’t cold enough to be needing so much energy to heat homes.
Just filled my tank from reserve to full ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN EURO.
Same fill last march cost me 80….
“May”
He will in his hole
Burning through about 200 a week of it now , come on Leo, the taxes were insane on it anyway
Really need to step aside from the motorist point of view. While it would be a welcome relief the really big area it could help is just about everything.
If you can drop fuel prices the energy cost of:
Production
Transportation
Heating
Etc
Will help everybody who does or doesn’t drive.
They’d fecking want to. Although they’ll find another tax to claw it back.
I wondered about this for awhile.
How much percent can they drop the duty to still be getting the same amount of money per liter for when fuel wasnt this high.
Fuel prices have massively increase and still gov are taking in the most via tax. They just waiting as long as they can but they know full well they have to do something.
“We must not interfere with the market” , unless they want too
Anyone know the (recent) equivalent cost of petrol in any of our neighbouring nations? UK, France, Spain, Netherlands?
Just curious if any of those countries have very relaxed taxes on petrol and how much it has climbed to for them even with the war panic.
By far the most irritating politician we have.
“We will be introducing a reduced levy on petrol- it will be implemented by this time next year. By the way, there’s a new tax being introduced, it’s coming in at midnight tonight”.
Fine Gael in a nutshell.
So for petrol but not Diesel. Did they also just place a extra charge on diesel this week I swear it’s gone up 10 cent when petrol hasn’t budget.
The rapid increase does suck but people planning their lives on the basis of completing hundreds of km every week in their personal vehicles are deluded. This age is dying and it’s already devasted the natural world. Make other plans. Adapt. Do better. Fuck cars.
And still increases carbon tax
Ya its already at like 80% so why not bring it down to like 20
He keeps saying exactly the right thing with a woulda coulda shoulda qualifier.
Filled my qashqai from reserve to full this morning. €98. Was closer to approx €65 last year. Driving from gorey to Dublin for work each day is going to crucify me. Gotta love Ireland. Can’t afford to live near Dublin because of the shambles of a housing crisis we have. Now can’t afford to drive into Dublin because of inflation. Feels like I’m going to end up not making enough money in work to get to work.
New carbon tax will balance it out don’t worry lads
As prices soar past €2 he means..
Cos they will..
It’s gonna be well over €2 tomorrow. Varadkar knows this. He has the press releases from applegreen. He’s getting out in front of the issue so he can be all “we as a government have said we will do something if it goes over €2 and we stick to our word. Unlike sinn féin, who like to oppose housing and Mary Lou who wants women to be raped. Also, houses can’t be built overnight”
