Queen Elizabeth spoke of her relief that the “silly marching season” in Northern Ireland was quieter than usual during a visit from the Irish ambassador in 2000, it has been revealed.
The late monarch’s comments about the controversial Protestant demonstrations have emerged in a series of state papers that were released by Irish authorities on Friday.
Ted Barrington, then the ambassador to the UK, met the Queen at a Palace garden party on July 25, 2000 and claimed it was not the first time he’d heard “her dismissive views of the Orange marches”.
He added that the remarks “were similar to those she has made to me on previous occasions”.

*Dead woman said something offensive nearly a quarter of a century ago. More at 6.*
Colonialism is silly.
This is piping hot tea for us old folks! Now that she’s been gone for over a year, I look forward to hearing more hot takes from ol’ Liz.
Her corpse must look silly by now
She wasn’t wrong.
She’s one to talk about silly…
