International Women’s Day today, no better reason to celebrate strong women from the past!
Amanda ‘Mouchka’ Stassart for example. Born in Lausanne from Belgian parents, she grew up in Elsene with her grandmother. In the 1930’s she joined her parents in Paris.
After the start of the Second World War she joined the resistance (together with her mother) and helped in the ‘Ligne Comète’, an escape route to help British airmen get from occupied Belgium back to the United Kingdom.
Amanda was arrested by the Gestapo in 1944 and sent to Ravensbrück. She was liberated in 1945 by the Red Cross.
After the war she started working for Sabena, where she fought for women’s rights and more equality between men and women.
