  1. Congratulations to the IRS for winning $600 million dollars

  2. Yea, $1.2 billion jackpot, but after the lump sum and taxes, it’s closer to $450 million NET

  3. Seems fixed that it’s always CA or NY winning the really big ones.

  4. Northern rural California so small town that you wouldn’t think “California.” I lived in Cottonwood for a while and heard immediately about it. They’re going to make poor decisions, likely.

  5. they’re gonna take less than half of that and the internet is gonna cry over it because winning 100 times as much money as you could possibly ever need out of nowhere is just so terrible compared to winning 300 times as much money as you could possibly ever need.

  6. Imagine winning when you turn 95 years old, damn that would be a nice casket

  7. I find it so ridiculously unfair that this amount is taxed. Like the chances to win this are so low and the government says thanks we will also take some ofthat luck.

Do you know if it’s public knowledge where they spend their portion of the winnings because it better go back into the community

  8. if i won that much money id probably use some of it to buy something.

  9. So pleased I personally contributed to someone’s happiness

  10. I kinda wish the jackpot maxed at 5 million or so but they pulled more winners the higher the pot gets.

  11. Amused by the commenters saying “yeah, but after taxes that’s only $600 million!” I’d say that’s still enough…

  12. Dude is at least pocketing half a billion dollars… everyone here “haha taxes and IRS hurr durr”.

  13. Why doesn’t anyone say anything when all these big pots win in California sus much?? Shits rigged

  14. They should go ahead and find that Reddit comment on what to do if you win the lottery

  15. That’s the last time I play the lottery ugh

    Edit:

I just saw that there were THREE winning tickets ALL IN CALIFORNIA? What are the fuckin’ chances?? How is this not suspicious?

  16. And it’s still not enough to buy a 5090. Tariffs gonna hit hard.

  17. I can’t help but laugh at people that piss and moan about the tax paid on it.

“Haha sucka! IRS going to take half of that!”

“Oh no! How ever will I recover from this. Perhaps the $600 mil just won will help.”

  18. This is the second time in my life I’ve bought a lottery ticket and both times, the winner has been in California.

  19. The usamega website shows how much the winner will receive. In California, if they take the lump sum payout, they will receive about $346 million after taxes. California does not tax lottery winnings.

  20. California. Of course. Always California, New York or Florida.

  21. Not a billionaire, not even close. The winning ticket sold in Cottonwood, Calif., the Mega Millions jackpot, estimated at $1.22 billion, has a cash option payout of $549.7 million, according to the lottery.

The winner will be taxed at both the Top state (12.3%), and federal (37%) tax rates.

The winner will not get $1.22 billion but after lump sum and Taxes will get around $270 million.

  22. If you win a huge lottery like this where do you put it? Can I march in to my local credit union and deposit the comically large check in to my free account?

  23. Elon musk made 150 billion dollars in the last few months for context

  24. My mom called me at 10:55 so I couldn’t get a ticket 🐯

  25. You know what I would do if I had a billion dollars? I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah —

  26. Why does it always seem like someone in California wins?

  27. Where exactly does all the money played go. Even with a jackpot like this, it’s gotta be way more than that. All I ever hear is that it benefits older Americans. Do the states participating in the particular lottery share the income from ticket sales.
