Ramin Rezaeian, a member of the Iranian national team and player for Esteghlal, could face punishment after being seen hugging a female fan before a match in the local championship.

Since 1979, physical contact between men and women who are not close relatives has been prohibited under Islamic law.

The ethics committee of the Iranian Football Federation has initiated proceedings against Rezaeian. He has been summoned for a hearing to present his side of the incident, after which his punishment will be determined. Possible sanctions include a suspension for one or more matches and a financial penalty.

Similar incidents have occurred before. Last April, Esteghlal captain Hossein Hosseini received a one-match suspension and a fine of approximately €4,700 for a comparable offense.

The situation has garnered significant attention in Iran, highlighting the strict adherence to laws governing public conduct and their impact on professional athletes.
