>The amendment’s terms should be robust and rigorous, putting beyond all doubt that the only lawful means of achieving independence or consulting the electorate on separation or other constitutional and reserved matters is via the passage of a Bill in the UK Parliament. While they’re at it, ministers should change the rules so that the Scottish Government can only instruct civil servants to carry out activities in connection with independence once the UK Parliament has legislated to permit a referendum on the matter.

>When that’s done, the Prime Minister should issue a pledge: that the Conservative party considers the matter of Scottish independence settled and, as long as it remains in government, it will never agree to another referendum. Read my lips: no more indyrefs.

>Then he should challenge Sir Keir Starmer to take the same pledge. This would put Sir Keir and the Labour Party in an impossible position, appearing weak on the Union if they refuse and overly hostile to an SNP they might have to rely on to get them into Downing Street if they agree.
Great timing for the staunch Brits to behave *like* Putin with things like this.
Why even have elections in Scotland? Let’s just remove them, or even better, make sure every ballot for a Scottish voter only has one party on it “The British Conservative and Unionist Party”.
Are you proposing that England should invade to prevent it? What a fabulous idea! 😒
Totally fucking shameful of audioboxer87 to say that anyone is “behaving like Putin” over scottish independence
Anyone that agrees with that ridiculous statement needs to turn the news on and see what’s happening. some scottish nationalists live in an alternate reality
When anyone disagreeing can show me videos of kids dead in the street from shelling from westminster maybe you’ll have a point, until then get your heads checked
Most Scots don’t want independence and voted against it yet the SNP will still force the issue until they can be brought to heel. Our voices are drowned out by the minority SNP radicals.
The Tories do not want to bury it, even though they will never grant a referendum. A vote for the SNP in their eyes is a vote that might otherwise be one for Labour. They also want to be able to argue in 2024 that a vote for Labour means being in hock to the SNP, and hope English people hate the Scots enough (or hate Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP enough) that they will vote Tory in enough numbers.
Just a note here, Daisley is a frothing unionist nutjob who once compared life under the SNP to North Korea.
You can not bury something which is in peoples hearts. Eventually Scotland will gain independence it’s just a question of when this will happen
