Hydrofoils don’t seem to handle waves very well. When I was on one in Italy, a tiny wave would have a fairly violent effect on board. Big waves? Can’t see it personally. This is the pentland firth – there’s going to be big waves. Edit: ah – not for the crossing from the mainland. This is just for between islands in Orkney. That seems more feasible.
