  3. Basically humanity has decided to sacrifice the planet and everything on it for AI that can generate pics. That’s it. That is the reality. That is how stupid we as a species are. We deserve to go extinct.

  5. no government has the courage to implement degrowth which is what will actually solve climate change

    everyone knows the current living standard for 1st world countries is completely unsustainable and as a planet we need to massively tear down fossil fuel infrastructure even if we don’t have a better transition before we hit 2C or worse (we are projected to hit 3.5C+ by end of century, which is basically hell for the planet)

    by virtue of literal physics we cannot “grow” our way of climate change, it doesn’t matter if we install quadrillion new solar panels if we don’t actually TAKE DOWN fossil fuel infrastructures that is putting us on a +3.5C at CURRENT level of emissions

    this will not happen so we will continue to pretend adding new EVs and Solar Panels (produced using fossil fuels) is doing anything to prevent climate change while we head towards +3-4C by 2100 and looking like +2C by 2050

    the future will loath us for literally turning Earth into a hostile hot house in 200 years of deranged capitalist consumption

  6. TBF japans only major two issues are excessive plastic production and unsustainable fishing. Their power, transport and other systems are generally on the lower side of a carbon footprint since their public transportation system is solid.

    Publicly dropping off though comes across as disingenuous. I think they are suffering birth rates and GDP issues that prevent being able to succeed. Opting out avoids public failure I suppose 🤷🏻‍♂️

  9. Like it or not, America is still the leader in so many things in the world.

    And when the leader says “eh, who cares about the climate, right?” it’s hard for the other countries to keep up their efforts.

    People will follow a leader, even when that leader screws up.

  12. Climate targets are like when your parents told you “soon” to shut you up and actually had no intention of ever doing whatever it was.

  13. Welp, nature has allowed us enough time already. We had our chance. If we can’t change as a species, then we’re meant to go extinct. So there’s that.

  14. We shall go the way of the Drell. Maybe an alien species such as the Hannar could save us Humans, but like the Drell they went from 11 billion to a few million.
