# Ukraine warns of radiation leak risk after power cut at occupied Chernobyl plant
LVIV, Ukraine, March 9 (Reuters) – Radioactive substances could be released from Ukraine’s Chernobyl nuclear power plant because it cannot cool spent nuclear fuel after its power connection was severed, Ukraine’s state-run nuclear company Energoatom said on Wednesday.
It said fighting made it impossible to immediately repair the high-voltage power line to the plant, which was captured by Russian forces after the Kremlin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. read more
Energoatom said there were about 20,000 spent fuel assemblies at Chernobyl that could not be kept cool amid a power outage.
Their warming could lead to “the release of radioactive substances into the environment. The radioactive cloud could be carried by wind to other regions of Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and Europe,” it said in a statement.
Without power, ventilation systems at the plant would also not be working, exposing staff to dangerous doses of radiation, it added.
On Tuesday, the U.N. nuclear watchdog warned that the systems monitoring nuclear material at the radioactive waste facilities at Chernobyl had stopped transmitting data. read more
The still-radioactive site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster lies some 100 km (62 miles) from Kyiv.
Its fourth reactor exploded in April 1986 during a botched safety test, sending clouds of radiation billowing across much of Europe.
Because, apparently, Putin is really impatient for Fallout 5 to come out so he’s making his own

First: I have doubts. The 20k fuel rods are either over 20 years old…in that case they can be cooled by air (like every EU plant is doing it also). Or they are from other plants (How many? How old?).
Second: If there’s one way to get EU/NATO activley involved in this war it is by threat of nuclear contamination. I would be really really careful about information from Ukraine on this one…they know this too.

This is all by design. Couple of days ago, Russia said they suspected Ukraine of making a dirty bomb. Meanwhile, they are making it impossible for the people at Chernobyl to work normally. They cannot swap shifts. Systems are closing down. Power is cut.
My prediction: Some explosion will happen at Chernobyl. This will contaminate A bit of Ukraine and Belarus. It will be blamed on Ukraine. This will be used as a Casus belli for Belarus to send soldiers. Russians might execute those working at Chernobyl, out of cruelty, and to cover up evidence.
Quickly check the current wind direction.
Radiation leaks from what? It has been more than 30 years since the accident. All that nuclear material is cold now. Even the famous “elephant foot” is cold and crumbling into dust.
It can only be dangerous if they make it dangerous, like, if they blow it up on purpose.
