The fact that the West African CFA and Central African CFA Francs are both pegged to the euro and that adherents have to keep half of their foreign currency reserves in the French treasury…

Even if they keep the currency more stable, which is a good thing, they rely on France’s good will, which is not amazing
I am honestly happy about this and I wish we could leave Africa overall, colonial heritage is a plague for everyone.

I watched few weeks ago a documentary on the Françafrique and the french neo-colonialism. All french presidents had a « Mister Africa » who put corrupted governments everywhere they can in Africa. Especially in Gabon, right after the decolonization this country were one of the most important source of wood and later, for petroleum with the corrupted regimes of Omar Bongo and Ali Bongo. The documentary is really more complex and interesting so i will put under this comment the link of it (the documentary is in French and i don’t know if there is good English subtitles).

France’s language laws literally keep them from joining human rights organizations. They suppress minority languages that are basically french with a slight accent. It would be like Germans suppressing Bavarians, or the UK suppressing Yorkshire. I don’t hate the french because they’re arrogant and pretentious, I hate the french because they are oppressors
The more you learn about France in Africa the more you wander why ARE WE STILL THERE. We seriously need to let it go, Africa was never profitable for us. Niger’s uranium is not even all that precious, we have Australia, Canada and Kazakhstan.

The French are notoriously horrible. To this day most of their colonies remain the most underdeveloped and fucked up places on earth. In a way even the Belgians managed to do better than the dirty French.
We did a lot of fucked up shit back in the day, including in the 60s and beyond. But pretending like we are extracting anything today or hurting these countries in any way is straight up delusional.
Africa represents not even 0.5% of our trade. There is just about nothing we get from them that we couldn’t get from resource megarich Australia or Canada.
The irony is that we now want nothing but stability and development for Africa (it is in our interest: it avoids issues of refugees and migration for us). Theyre now choosing to ditch our partnerships in favour or russia/china who have no interest in their stability and will only extract, commit wagner-war crimes and destabilise them as a migratory weapon against Europe.
Them kicking us out will probably be good for us: we can redirect the resources to more beneficial regions. It’ll be terrible for them though. It’s sad honestly.

anyway how do you compare colonists anyway? get colonize once and then get colonized twice? wait a second, that sounds like a big portion of africa.
