Yes, we won the Space Race, but we’re losing the decisive one: China has swept us off our feet with this. China’s aggressive policies and smart investments are the main reasons for its supremacy in the solar energy industry. The United States has hope despite the difficulties.

Because in the U.S. half the people are morons who believe it’s not real. Now we’re going to be led by a complete moron who will put us behind even further in the years to come.
78 million people voted no on the green slime scam. You can have your windmills and solar panels and enjoy somewhere else .
China is winning the race for the EV market as well. They have the entire supply chain. Their cars are now totally internationally competitive on quality, features, and price. I am not sure how the US can catch up at this point.
Its not a race, no one is losing anything and cheap mass produced clean energy is not a bad thing if china does it instead of the US or EU or aliens. China is doing it for energy independance reasons and the US isnt so thats why growth is slower but its there and big time
we’re winning the billionaire race! Our billionaires pay the lowest taxes!! we win! /s
HAD hope. Formerly. Not presently.
What we have now is a parasitic lump which will suck us dry as the rest of the world watches our fall
Reagan pretty much killed our solar industry right at the start of his presidency, setting photovoltaics back for decades.
On the other hand, Carter was a visionary for our country and our planet. But he was a reasonable human and lost to Mr Macho gubmint is the problem movie guy. Our loss.
Oil industry and fake bravado did the rest. So here we are.
climate change deniers just won a presidential election. I don’t see how we have hope.
The Chinese astroturfing in this sub is wild 😂
Solar panels are not an high tech product. They were not invented by China. They are a low margin, high volume commodity. Do you think we lost the race for clothes because China is producing most of them?
TOO Little, TOO Late. America is too focused on GREED and the hell with solar, so China will eat our lunch.
We have oil companies in the U.S. that have more money than god. They basically own a lot of political decisions in the U.S. They aren’t going to give up their golden goose to let some other energy source come along and supplant them. Hence the reason Trump is so vocal about killing EVs and drill baby drill, etc.
Don’t worry, Trump will put a 200% tariff on China and that’ll solve everything.
China has built more coal fired power plants in the last 5 years that you can count.
China is actually not the big bad evil country that is being sold to people. They are a hybrid of capitalism and socialism (most don’t actually know the definition). We should be investing in ourselves like they do. Put the social issues too the side and just look at the economic space.
China has gotten fat selling us this solar garbage.
US does ***not*** have hope. The oil barons won, there is no way in hell that aggressive solar investments are happening under a Republican administration, definitely not with a playbook written by the Heritage Foundation of all folks – not exactly the best playbook for making aggressive investments in Solar energy. Republicans only want to support coal, gas, and oil because I guess it’s just too hard to change things <insert Republican whine>
Another advantage is they have next to no restrictions.
That’s also why their stuff is cheaper
In what world was the first world ever going to compete on price for solar? It’s been brought to the level of a commodity and China is ways ahead when it comes to producing at low cost and in large quantities. Absent tariffs/protectionism/other trade barriers/human rights/geopolitics, it would be a good thing to have commoditized such an important product.
