The weather might be bad this evening and into the night, causing Hellisheiði to be closed.

There is a risk that Hellisheiði will be impassable this evening and night due to severe weather that is expected to pass there.
This is according to Elva Brá Bjarkadóttir from the Icelandic Road Administration”s traffic service.
She also says that conditions are precarious at Mýrdalssandur tonight.
Yellow warnings issued
In an interview with mbl.is, Bjarkadóttir says that Hellisheiði is fine at the moment. However, there is some ice on the road and possibly some snow drifts.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued yellow warnings for Southwest Iceland and South Iceland that will take effect at 8pm and 10pm tonight and will last until tomorrow. This puts a question mark over whether the heath will be impassable later tonight.
Bjarkadóttir says that there is a risk that it will be impassable, but the Icelandic Road Administration will try to keep the heath open.
Service to cease at 10:30 tonight
The wind is increasing, especially under Mt Hafnarfjall where it has been gusting to 28 m/s and a squall can be expected there tonight.
Bjarkadóttir reminds us that the Icelandic Road Administration will cease service on the road at 10:30 tonight. After that time, it will be a question of whether the road will be passable.
