Britain at loggerheads with EU allies over move to cut Russia from Swift banking system

  1. Good to see us taking the strongest possible stance on this.

German and Italian weakness in this area will not pay off in the long term and should be reconsidered imo.

  2. I can’t help wondering if there’s some element to this that I’m missing – I can’t believe that I’m on the same side as Boris, and I keep thinking that he’s pulling a number on me.

My gut reaction is that it’s absolutely reprehensible that EU heads of state have any reluctance in cutting Russia off from SWIFT, and then I remember that they’re usually the sane and grown-up ones, and wonder if they might have some good reasons for refusing. Maybe Boris is just being loud about this because he knows it’s impossible.

  3. Everyone on here really seems to be enjoying this war , I’m loving the comments, it would be nice to see the same enthusiasm over the war in Yemen and the apartheid in Israel but I guess the media dont care about women and children dying in those countrys , anyway back to the war they want you to care about 😁

  4. Could we not give the Ukrainian Government a blank line of credit with BAE systems and the rest of the UK Arms companies available stock? There must be a decent amount of drones and that sitting around to help.

  5. Fuck the money that Russia owes the West. We should completely cut Russia off and send it backwards like North Korea. Once the Russian people turn Putin inside out we can let them back in.

As for Russian money that British politics has taken, I don’t know why people are getting in a twist about that. It’s a simple case of “Thanks for the money. I waited for the cheque to clear first before we froze all your assets in the UK. Now fuck off”

  6. Johnson after seeing which way a crowd is going, runs to the front and shouts ‘Follow me!’ Knowing he can’t suspend SWIFT and the EU companies and governments need to collect debt from Russia and pay for things like, erm, gas for heating *to* Russia via the SWIFT banking system. A trade embargo maybe works better, just block selling them anything. Putin has to take some Russian made bus because all the nice cars are knackered and need parts. And not a temporary embargo, a permanent one.

Russia can be like Cuba, without the weather.

Without swift it’s also gonna be pretty hard for whatever uprising may happen to oust putin, to be funded.

  7. All the while Europe’s NATO members need to buy gas from Russia they’ll not eject them from SWIFT

We get a single digit percent of our gas from Russia

Even the Americans admitted flat out that they are not targetting sanctions at Russia’s energy network.

It makes sense, they don’t want to risk Europe’s energy supply. If anything happens with those supplies it’ll be a Russian decision.

  8. Europe needs Russian gas. As in, can’t do without. We really need to cross that hurdle and begin today as it’s probably a decade long project.
