New Orleans Fire Department says the building appears to be vacant, and no injuries were reported.
NEW ORLEANS — Emergency crews are responding to a building collapse near the intersection of Magazine and Felicity Streets. The extent of the damage and any potential injuries remain unknown at this time.
A WWL-TV viewer at a restaurant across the street captured photos of the incident, showing significant damage to the structure.
New Orleans Fire Department says the building appears to be vacant, and no injuries were reported.
Nearby businesses were forced to evacuate, and at least two cars parked in front of the building were totaled in the rubble.
Damage to Entergy Equipment
According to an Entergy New Orleans spokesperson, the collapse damaged an Entergy transformer in the area. However, officials clarified that the transformer did not cause the collapse.
“A structure collapse at the corner of Magazine and Felicity caused damage to Entergy equipment, including a transformer — which created the flash seen by those nearby,” a spokesperson for Entergy New Orleans said. “To be clear: the transformer was impacted by the building collapse; it was not the cause. Entergy crews are on site and working with public safety agencies to secure the location.”
