The headline is incorrect. The children were either orphans or had single, poor parents who gave their consent.
It happened on initiative of Red Cross/Save the Children with the approval of the local Inuit authorities. The Inuit authorities pushed the Danish state authorities very hard for a modernisation of Greenland in 1950s and 1960s. It was not vice verse.
Child mortality was extreme high on Greenland in those days from poverty, tuberculosis etc and the lively hood of families depended on the husband being able to catch seals, whales, fish. If the sole provider died out to sea, the remaining parent would struggle to feed the children, which could be given away to other members of the family or community.
So fucked up…
Why not just give Greenland it’s independence?
Man what the hell was up with the old people wanting to create Elite races. I think it all boils down to too much sex or not enough sex or something to do with sex. They should have mind their own damn businesses.
Wtf were they still doing it 70 years ago. I recently read a novel (based on true historical events) which described similar experiment 300 years ago, which also went horribly wrong.
