It’s only from £2 to £3, wouldn’t call that a painful increase though I get that is a nuisance.
Crazy how the to push a green agenda but yet increase in the cost of bus fares 🤦♂️
People seem to be forgetting that the £2 cap was supposed to be scrapped at end of 2023. We had an extra year and now it’s increased a £1
It’s now £12 return for two of us to go to the city (25 mins 8 miles) parking for 4 hours is £7. It’s nonsense really. We would prefer to take the bus but at these prices it doesn’t make sense.
Has no impact here – bus service withdrawn March last year.
Can we mandate that bus companies increase investment into local routes by 50% then?
Glad to be living in Manchester.
Doesn’t make sense to increase it.
They even said they had seen an increase in public transport usage since decreasing is to £2 – that’s good for everyone, surely?
The buses in my city recently got fined by parliament for being useless so this is a piss take tbh
Thought that was about to happen. Takes three hours to get to work by bus and two different buses, neither of which coincide so every day waiting around in my local city bus hub for the next one run by a different company. Costs £40 a week. Petrol costs £32 a week by car £12 ish by motorcycle. Bus is cold, damp, smells and on Friday always got someone creating an ‘issue’ by either vaping, fighting, drunk, being a twat to the driver… Most of the time the bus runs empty through my area apart from mornings and evenings. If I’m out late then there’s no bus to my nearest village after 2035. I persevered using the bus but no more, bought a car.
This is a SUBSIDY of the fares paid to private services.
So if it’s millions, that’s actually bringing the payments forward instead of elaving them to be paid thorugh taxes?
It’s so unfare!
Whatever did we do before this £2 came in? The most expensive ticket on my route before the flat rate was £20 for a single.
I never experienced this cheap travel lol. Been told it’s an England thing.
More accurate headline:
Millions of bus passengers to pay a bit more than the heavily subsidised price but still less than the actual fare because it’s still being subsidised
This was only ever intended to be a temporary subsidy during the pandemic, I don’t know why people are acting surprised
