Creative Space Avon, 33760 Lear Industrial Parkway, will hold a “Think Outside the Box” themed gallery walk and show at 7 p.m. Jan. 25.
The three-week show, which ends Feb. 16, will showcase artists from Lorain County and Northeast Ohio.
The mixed media art will be judged and awarded on opening night.
Judy Kean, owner of Creative Space Avon, opened the gallery and event space in 2014 to expand on the connected glass studio she has owned for 40 years.
“The space was born because I wanted to be able to showcase local artisans and a place for the public to come in and rent for their own activities,” Kean said.
In the last 10 years, she said she has hosted gallery shows, all of which have a theme.
“‘Think Outside the Box’ means for the artist to present something that’s brand new, art that they made specifically for the show,” Kean said. “It’s doing a new technique or style that’s not normal for them to do.”
The mixed media theme means anything can be submitted for review, she said.
“It could be digital art, it could be pottery, wood, metal, even trash, it could be anything,” Kean said.
Each show features 25 to 32 artists who submit works that fit certain criteria, she said.
The artists also have an opportunity to sell their art and win awards.
“Each artist can submit up to three pieces of art, then it goes through me to make sure it meets certain criteria like quality and meeting deadlines,” Kean said. “Then it’s up to the judge to decide who is getting awards.
“Usually, there’s eight to 10 awards every show.”
Kean invites college professors to judge the shows.
She said she also will hire musicians and entertainers to perform during opening and closing nights.
Kean said she wants to allow anyone who makes art to showcase their talent in a gallery setting.
“It allows younger people, and even established older artisans that maybe picked up art after they retired, to be able to showcase their art and not feel like they should’ve gone to an art college,” she said.
Creative Space Avon is inviting artists to submit pieces for the Jan. 25 show.
The deadline to submit is Jan. 3. For more information, call 440-823-7406.
