LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – La Crosse County is one of many counties in the badger state providing eligible homeowners with the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP).
The program provides assistance for heating costs, electric costs, and energy crisis situations.
It is also part of the Home Energy Plus Program (HE+), Which provides services to repair heating systems, water heaters, leaky fixtures, and piping.
“It helps alleviate the burden of energy costs. It should be very expensive to heat your house, and it will help to take care of that burden. It gives you a supplement to help with your bills and maybe prevent you from being disconnected,” says La Crosse County Energy Assistance Coordinator Kristi Matz
The program provides assistance to over 200,000 households in Wisconsin annually.
