  1. Is the Telegraph motive to just flood social media with rage bait nonsense? I’m starting to think that just because it is r/uknews we don’t need every article the Telegraph scrapes off the floor posted into the sub

  2. I have a colleague at a major broadcaster working from a beach in NZ and another from a beach in SA. All private sector. Why the hate if the public sector do it?

  3. oh jesus they are lost here. I have met tech workers in Albania and Ireland my son is downstairs working in the games industry right now .The torygraph needs to wake up a bit

  4. This bizarre mentality (Victorian?) that employees are akin to livestock is beyond anachronistic. Productivity is what matters. All that matters.

Little wonder we in the UK have a big fat 0 where growth should reside, gridlocked infrastructure and some of the least efficient public sector organizations on the freaking planet.

  5. I have absolutely no issue with remote work as long as it’s done as efficient and diligent as if they were in the office. As soon as things are not done because “i had internet issues” , back to the office.

  6. This bullshit again? They ran EXACTLY the same story about Civil Servants two years ago.

Yes Torygraph, in this highly globalised world that your readers and owners have profited from the UKs workforce now has family around the globe, family they can now visit while working abroad.

  7. I wonder if the Torygraph journalists are all in the office or if they get to work from wherever they like as long as the job gets done?

  8. Wait til these grifters see how many private sector firms allow fully remote already

  9. Friend was working for the commonwealth games when it was being hosted by Birmingham. They had staff in Australia, on a canal boat coming from Manchester to Birmingham. Due to a thing called “the cloud” there were no issues with there work locations.

  10. You defo cannot work from abroad in the local authority I work for, you cannot even login and will have to answer as to why you took your equipment abroad when you get back, ICT have been all over people doing this for years

  11. Yeh of course they are… maybe just do one with your nonsense

  12. What is all this nonsense about where people work from. If someone is contributing the expected quality and quantity of work and able to do it from a beach then more power to them! And if they aren’t then should we not be more worried about ‘council workers getting paid for 5 days work but only doing 3’ or whatever.

Perhaps the Torygraph owner also owns some London offices?

  13. TV interview with the Finance Director for Brentwood District Council.

Journalist- “Don’t you think that working from a beach in Cyprus could be a problem?”

Financial Director- “Not for me it isn’t”

  14. To be honest, I they are working from home, I couldn’t care where they are.

  15. The only limit from good employers is where they, as a company, become liable for tax in the country you are working in. This can become complicated, and expensive, for them very quickly. IIRC the fastest time for tax liability is about a month.
