    Ah yes, known despot… Jimmy Carter? Because when I think of Jimmy Carter, the first word that comes to my mind is authoritarian. That definitely isn’t a word to describe the incoming guy who this Rep. just voted for?

    Anybody got the text of the apology? I’m assuming it’s something like “I’m sorry you were offended by my statement; it was a joke that didn’t land.” or some other lame nonpology.

    That means he wasn’t even alive during Carter’s presidency. Yet again another case of manufactured outrage where these people go against whatever everyone else is for just for the sake of attention.

  12. There’s a reason The Simpsons could refer to Carter as “history’s greatest monster” and that’s because he so literally is NOT and every sane person knows it.

  17. let me get this straight. This one-term president from the 1970s was so terrible that all the years of republican rule in the interim haven’t been able to undo his damage? I had no idea he was so powerful

  18. A man is maybe President for 4 or 8 years. But that is just a sliver in time. President Carter was a Great Man for his entire lifetime. He gave so of himself to not just this country, but the world. He exemplified what a true Christian man is. He didn’t skirt his military responsibility, but served honorably, he had heavy moments during his presidency, but which President doesn’t? He gave his farm, so he could be president and didn’t make money off the presidency. Once out of office he dedicated his time to ensure fair elections round the world, helped to eradicate diseases, built homes for the poor and homeless. He didn’t just go and play golf. President Carter is a man of whom we are proud to call a true American. No amount of beseeching can change that, and only shows the type of person you are.

  22. Apologize as much as he wants he is still trash. He had these thoughts, wrote them down, and then hit post thinking he was clever. He has no ethics, morals, or even rudimentary understanding of history. He is trash and should not be representing anyone.

  25. Thing that I find puzzling is that some of the Christian right are badmouthing a man whose life was the epitome of Christianity while supporting and praising Trump.

  28. I can remember a time when a public statement like this would have been the end of a political career. We are not moving society in the correct direction.
