  1. Disappointingly it doesn’t seem that the driver was using an inflatable doll in the passenger seat as a supervisor.

  2. “When you knowingly driving around without an MOT don’t be surprised if we conduct further checks!”

I’m not sure got’em applies when it took you 49 years to catch’em.

  3. Do police ever conduct random licence checks in the UK just for the sake of it, like they do in other countries („papers please”)?

If a person without a licence keeps their car insured, MOTed and taxed, and doesn’t attract attention to themself by speeding/driving erratically etc., will they ever be caught?

  4. > Lancashire Police’s roads policing unit stopped the driver of a Range Rover on Lostock Lane, Preston, due to the vehicle not having an MOT.

    > After further checks, they found the driver, who was not identified, to have been driving on an expired provisional licence for 49 years.

Maybe police should do more random stop and check?

  5. Says more about the ineptbess of the UK Police and Courts

  6. If only we had a national identity database and facial recognition on every ANPR camera the problem would be solved.

  7. ngl if it’s been 49 years and you’ve never had an accident at that point just give em a licence and call it a day

  8. Presumably to go 49 years without being caught must mean they haven’t had any issues or incidents that would have involved the police. They’re probably doing better than a lot of drivers with a full licence at that point and should probably just be grandfathered in by way of actual road experience.
