Today, Princess Beatrice of York, a niece of King Charles III, celebrates her birthday. In her honor, we’ve got an interesting fashion and jewelry survey, inspired by a recent accolade awarded to the princess.

In their September issue, Tatler ranked Princess Beatrice at the top of their best-dressed list, calling her the “Princess of Perfection.” The magazine’s style editor notes, “The master of this fashion feat? Princess Beatrice of York. Once the subject of much jest thanks to that Philip Treacy hat at the Prince and Princess of Wales’s wedding (the masses weren’t ready for millinery that marvellous), Beatrice has since become a beacon of sartorial elegance, pairing vintage-inspired cuts with fresh-from-the-catwalk glamour. Resplendent in Richard Quinn, mesmerising in Monique Lhuillier or beaming in Beulah London, the princess is the pinnacle of contemporary splendour.”

In honor of Beatrice’s sartorial triumph, and as part of her birthday celebrations, we’re looking today at some of her most interesting ensembles from the past year. The roster includes appearances from her signature pair of diamond clip statement earrings–and a smaller pair of earrings that heralds the promise of jewels to come.

In September 2023, Princess Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, both walked the red carpet at the Vogue World: London event held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Beatrice, who was accompanied by her dapper husband, the businessman Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, wore an ensemble by the designer Richard Quinn for the occasion.

She also added a pair of gorgeous Art Deco-style diamond earrings that have been mainstays in her jewelry collection for some time. These are the same earrings that Beatrice wore during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, in 2022, as well as for the royal wedding in Jordan in 2023. Presumably, these are clip earrings, as at this point in time Beatrice did not have pierced ears.

The earrings–and Edo–also accompanied Beatrice at the Art of Wishes Gala at Raffles in London in October. The event was a fundraiser for the Make-a-Wish charity. Beatrice wore a light blue dress from the brand Self-Portrait for the gala, paired with a Chanel-inspired jacket from Alice + Olivia.

Beatrice again wore the classic diamond statement earrings, with their girandole-esque design, for this gala event.

In December, Beatrice and Edo made a pair of royal outings to celebrate the holiday season. They joined many other members of the family at Westminster Abbey to support the Princess of Wales at her Together at Christmas carol service. Edo’s son, Christopher Woolf, also joined them for the occasion. Beatrice wore delicate bracelets and her engagement and wedding rings with a tartan dress from Beulah London for the service.

On Christmas Day, Beatrice and Edo joined the royal family for holiday celebrations at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. For a church service at nearby St. Mary Magdalene, Beatrice wore a navy coat (from Maje, per UFO No More) with a large padded velvet headband, also in navy blue. The wintery fascinator-style ornament also features floral accents.

Princess Beatrice wore the same navy ensemble for a memorial service in remembrance of the late King Constantine II of Greece in Windsor in February. For this occasion, she added netting to her headpiece.

The Mapelli Mozzis looked like they stepped out of a vintage photograph when they attended the Cheltenham Festival in March, with Princess Beatrice reaching into her wardrobe for a camel-colored coat from The Fold and a pillbox-style halo hat. No visible jewelry on this occasion, which would be one of the last ones we’d see Beatrice attending without earrings.

For her first appearance at Royal Ascot in 2024, Princess Beatrice wore a lovely pink floral dress from Zimmerman with another padded floral headpiece, this time in springy pink.

For day four of this year’s races at Royal Ascot, Beatrice arrived wearing a stunning green floral dress from Emilia Wickstead with a Juliette Botterill hat.

Along with her usual bracelets, Beatrice wore an unusual jewelry accessory: a pair of small hoop earrings that appear to be set with tiny diamonds. These are sleeper-style earrings, and they indicate that Beatrice pierced her ears at some time during the spring of 2024. A very exciting development, given that Beatrice also appears to have a generous husband who enjoys gifting jewelry to his wife. Perhaps we’ll be seeing more spectacular diamond earrings for this princess on the horizon?

The little hoop earrings are the kind that are worn to help a new piercing heal, so it makes sense that Beatrice has continued to wear them regularly in recent weeks. Here, she wears them with a lavender-toned floral dress from The Kooples for an art event in London on July 1.

And, just a few weeks ago, she wore the little hoops with a rose-printed dress (from Me and Em) for a school visit sponsored by the British Skin Foundation in London.

Now that Beatrice is slowly tip-toeing into the world of more substantial jewelry, what sorts of pieces, antique or otherwise, would you like to see her wear in the future?
