Moldova: Russia threatens gas supply in Europe’s poorest state

  1. You know, if you want to buy smth, you have to pay.
But if someone wants to gift them gas or sell it on lower prices, why not?

  2. “Threatens gas supply” or offers 25% off market rate after Moldovan gov lets contract run out during a gas shortage.

The worst you can say is Russia isn’t being as generous with the Moldova as it was when the pro-Russian party was in power. But they hardly are being unfair.

  3. If they are so poor maybe they shouldn’t have been buying stuff they can’t afford?

Does Amazon give away free stuff to the poor?

  4. “Russia offer a steep discount, but less steep than previously, on a commodity that has seen its price fly to the stratosphere recently, as Moldova’s government didn’t bother to sort out a new contract ahead of time, and failed to pay their existing bill”.

Come on now, we have a dictator who has invaded multiple neighbouring countries, used gas to pressure Germany, violently suppresses dissent and free press etc. Do we really need to make up fake bullshit to criticise them?

  5. This might be an unpopular opinion, but here it goes. And this does not only apply to Russia vs. neighbors and former satellite states but in general.

No one is entitled to any special deal of any kind.

If there were special deals or special offers before that were there on the assumption that these gifts are in exchange for political influence or alliance, it is more than reasonable to assume that once the second part is gone, the first one will follow.

Having said that, I think since Moldova wants to grow closer to the EU and I assume we want them to join our sphere of influence, we should help them out. Which is fair for both sides.

  6. No, Russia is generously helping you to reduce your carbon emission footprint.
(Something that is long overdue, btw )
    Enjoy.

  7. As stated by the Prime Minister of Moldova, Moldova wants a gas price corresponding to its financial capabilities.
I wonder what the Bentley dealership would do if I came to them and asked me to sell the Bentley Continental for $ 10,000?
