That’s not entirely accurate. While we get most of our gas not from Russia, we get quite a lot of our gas from Europe. And gas shortage in Europe will make that a lot more difficult.
>Although UK Gas Supply security may not currently be at risk, price pressures due to simple supply and demand
Well quite, of course security of supply only matters if you can afford it in the first place.
People can take some action at an individual level.
Already I’ve installed a 4.6KW solar panel array with battery storage on my roof, which more than powers the house on an average day, and we’re barely feeling the price inflation because we pay an average of 5p per unit (compared to everyone else paying 20+p from utilities).
I’ve replaced all my gas kitchen appliances with electric and induction.
The final piece of the puzzle now is to replace my gas boiler with a heat pump. My house is well insulated and we’ve been steadily upgrading all the radiators to larger doubles as we’ve decorated rooms.
Obviously not everyone has a house and free capitol to do so – but if you’re willing to make DIY your main paid hobby for a couple of years, you can make yourself much more energy self reliant.
