Prince Harry and Prince William’s ongoing rift has been well-documented over the last few years, with Harry’s memoir Spare believed to have been the final straw for their relationship.
Despite the fact the brothers were once close, their relationship began to deteriorate when Harry quit life as a senior royal in 2020 and moved across the pond to America with his wife Meghan Markle.
The brotherly bond between the pair was then further damaged when Harry, 40, featured in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where he criticised the Royal Family and life as a senior royal.
This was made worse by Harry’s admissions in the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, released just months before his memoir Spare, where he accused his older brother of physically fighting him.
While it is believed that Princess Kate tried to act as a peacemaker between the once-close siblings when the rift first began, it has also been reported that another unlikely royal also attempted to take on this role.
As reported by The Mirror, royal commentator Katie Nicholl said that Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, tried to help her nephews during this time, especially Prince William, 43.
Katie said: “Sophie is a very popular member of the family because she’s easy-going, there’s never any drama, and she just gets on with the job, quietly and diligently.
“She was very supportive in those years when William and Prince Harry fell out and there were all the problems over him and Meghan leaving the country.
“Sophie was among the few people who understood how difficult it was behind the scenes, and rumour has it she played a bit of a peacekeeper. That’s partly why she has been so successful in the family, because she’s never got overly involved in all the internal politics.”
