RÚV the Icelandic broadcaster is continuing to consider participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

RĂşnar Freyr GĂslason has confirmed to Eurofestivales that the Icelandic public broadcaster is continuing to look at participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. In a statement, he said:

RÚV is still thinking about joining JESC. We like the idea and we think our audience would enjoy the show. But we haven’t decided if and when we will join .

In 2022, RÚV said that the high costs associated with the participation kept Iceland from debuting at the contest, adding that the country would like to have its own National Selection for Junior Eurovision if it were to debut.

Nevertheless, the broadcaster hasn’t aired the contest since 2021 due to “low audiences”. If Iceland were to debut at Junior Eurovision, it would be the first time Icelandic would be heard at the competition, and the first Nordic country to debut since 2003.

Junior Eurovision 2025

Andria Putkaradze from Georgia won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Madrid with “To My Mom”. Unlike at the Eurovision Song Contest next years host is not automatically the winner of the last contest, the EBU is working with all interested broadcasters and will announce a host in the coming weeks.

A number of countries have either confirmed their participation in Junior Eurovision 2025 or signaled their intention to compete:

In addition, Croatia and Lithuania are both examining returns to the competition in 2025. However, Estonia has confirmed it will withdraw due to budget cuts at the broadcaster. DR the Danish public broadcaster and the Israeli broadcaster KAN have confirmed it has no plans to return to the contest in 2025.
