Very unlikely for Labour to back a Sinn Féin’s led government but under these numbers, would make impossible for anything else. Might end up a SF-FF government at least.
Sinn Fein could end up governing both the Republic and the North after next election.
I begin to notice a surge of left wing all over Europe…what is happening? Not a bad thing per se, it is just that a few months ago everyone and their mom proclaimed that European left wing is dead
I have a suspicion that the current government coalition will rebound once Varadkar gets the PM post from Martin (in the middle of their stint). Martin is not charismatic at all, and nowhere near as cunning and agenda-manipulative as Varadkar.
Ironic how weak the Greens in Ireland are.
A Labour party and a Social Democratic party? monty_python_splitters.gif
Good for Ireland. If the same party or ideology – whichever it is – is in power for too long, it’s much easier for corruption to take hold. Suddenly, scandals are uncovered and questionable practices have a chance of being changed.
The occasional swap can do wonders for the health of institutions by contributing new blood for all the organs that make up a state or at least to those that have new members selected for. The old blood in those organs will not sheepishly abide when the new government makes a democratic blunder. The same goes for this new, different blood, making sure those organs stay true to their mission, even if/after the newcomer has been ousted from power again. The not so new members (anymore) in those organs, besides adding a new perspective, will not tag along either when the other party is back and taking a misstep.
When everyone takes “checks and balances” seriously, the democracy and the citizens benefit.
I’ve just seen a left wing Irish MEP talk about China, Taiwan and the US. It’s quite a scary thought of Ireland going left-wing, after seeing that.
Could someone quickly explain to me the differences between FF and FG please?
Emphasis on theoretical , Not many parties want a coalition with Sinn Féin because of the whole IRA thing
Sorry, SF are a populist party and not really a left wing part.
So Ireland decided that they will repeat the 30s
Is Sinn Fein related to the IRA? I keep hearing contradictory reports
