Tori May Hansen, a determined 16-year-old, recently showcased her dedication to her dreams by traveling over 26 hours from Singapore to Denmark to attend her audition for the popular TV 2 show ‘X Factor’. The aspiring singer, who has lived in both Odense and Singapore, currently resides in Singapore where she studies at an international school.
In the second episode of ‘X Factor,’ viewers will get to know Tori as she takes the stage to audition in front of judges Thomas Blachman, Simon Kvamm, and Oh Land. Despite the daunting journey, Tori was unwavering in her decision to participate in the singing competition.
“We didn’t know what would happen if I advanced from the audition, so we discussed how to approach it,” Tori told Ekstra Bladet. “Suddenly, we had booked a flight to Denmark.”
Costly and lengthy journey
Traveling such a long distance is not cheap, and Tori’s family had to invest significantly to get her to the precasting and audition in Aarhus. With limited opportunities for singing competitions in Singapore, they decided to take the chance together.
“It cost a lot—around 8,000 kroner for the plane tickets—and we had to find the cheapest hotel in Aarhus,” she shared.
A heartwarming moment
The effort paid off when Tori left a lasting impression on the judges with her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s ‘A Natural Woman.’ Judge Thomas Blachman was particularly taken, even getting up from his seat to give her a hug.
“It was insane! I didn’t expect that at all,” she laughed, reflecting on Blachman’s gesture. “I have immense respect for him, so it felt surreal and overwhelming. But it also felt natural to be there for the audition.”
