  1. I think people are concerned with rapidly increasing expenses and little to no increase in income. What’s happening elsewhere isn’t really relevant.

  2. 50% is tax the government could step in and lower the price but they won’t as they’re all scumbags.

  3. Phew, that’s grand so, I was worried garages increasing their prices by 20 cents within a day, just before the government reduced the excise duty was some price of price gouging, but you put my mind at ease.

  4. Yeah well we don’t have public transport infrastructure to match any other EU country. Our buses and trains are the most expensive in the EU. We’re the only ones in Europe still using diesel trains on city commuter trains. And our politicians have zero interest to, at the bare minimum, catch up to average European standards.

I would love to take public transport to work. People actually think it’s a simple choice between driving and using public transport in this country. Nope, this is not the Netherlands.

  5. Do I live in Germany France or Spain, no I don’t I live in Ireland and soon enough I won’t be able to drive anywhere here, so yeah let me be pissed off with what’s happening here.

  6. Inflation is up 40% since just before the recession in 08′. Minimum wage is up 22% in the same time frame but sure “nobody wants to work anymore”. That’s the issue.

  7. One of highest paid countries in Europe whose taxed at the higher rate at 34.5k compared to 50k with our EU neighbors.

We might ‘earn’ more, but they’re take home pay is higher because the government doesn’t start stealing half of it until 50k.

  8. most of europe is pretty densely populated compared to ireland and a lot of people can avail of their superior public transport. all of rural ireland and more don’t have the same services

  9. The issue like everywhere is these companies want their profits and the government is just as bad. I want to say taxes and duties on hydrocarbons is 60% of the entire cost something can be done.

The ESB, a government run company, posted massive profits last year meanwhile if my grandparents were still alive they’d struggle to pay their bills and my parents would struggle to help them so it would fall on the grandkids to make sure it’s okay. And we would but not all families and elderly people have that luxury.

It’s a similar issue in the US, PG&E slapped a 10% increase on my already extortionate electricity bill. These fuckers have managed their power grid terribly and they messaged it as a tax to help fund resiliency to wild fires. I know another hit is coming because they’re too inept to manage the rising commodity costs. They should be eating this because there are agreements and regulations and governments should be protecting ordinary people.

  10. Anyone else see a potential u-turn in lowering the public transport rates by 20% in April? Surely that won’t be sustainable if fuel prices are still the way they are.

  11. >Lads calm down with the petrol prices , same prices above 2.00 happening in German, France, Spain not just Ireland ,

And that makes it ok because?

  12. That’s great and all, but not all of us are highly paid. Most of us are struggling enough between rent and electricity etc. let alone this shit as well.

  13. I hate when people try and make this point, just because it’s worse someplace else doesn’t mean we should be angry about the price here.

If my house burns down I get to be upset about it, even if my neighbours house also burned down and his dog died, still shite for me.

  14. I remember you, gobshite. You’re this lad.

“On my single income salary alone I could afford what most couples are looking to buy at about 350-400k. I do understand how lucky I am and my current partner earns almost double what earn and could buy a 600k place by themselves”

    From this thread.

Coming on here telling people to stop whinging while you’re in the top 5% of earners in the country and your missus is in the top 1%.

Don’t just read the room, but read the country, you absolute bollocks.

  15. I know but there is a bunch of cry fucking babys here. If you haven’t realized everything is going up that mean YES petrol also…. And hey big brain idea maybe because of possible WW3 the prices go up due to countries trying to stock up before shit happens 🤔 but no let’s post the same shit over and over and over again become that will do so much and bring the prices down 🤦‍♂️
