Finnish Minister of Defence: “Not the right time to join Nato”

  1. Yeah why join a defensive alliance against an agressive Russia while Russia is invading another non-NATO country?

Better wait for a better time like when Putin has had time to put his army at YOUR borders…..

  2. This is not the end of this story, I hope both Finland and Sweden will join NATO and do it together. I think the efficiency of the sanctions and the apperent ineffiency of the Russian military has made them downgrade the threat level.

But things could still change in Ukraine for the worse. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that but let’s be prepared for it.

  3. Honestly, if the opinion of Finland and Sweden has not changed after this war, I doubt it will ever change, so might as well just drop the subject of NATO membership altogether. Seems to me they’re more comfortable not being in NATO.

  4. Ok but when will be the right time ? When Russian troops are preparing at Finland’s borders (unlikely, but still) ?

  5. He said it not the time to send the application today. Not that it would not be next month or so. The nato train is running in Finland.

  6. They are being deliberately obtuse and vague about the NATO issue. Something is definitely cooking, but they avoid saying anything definitive to avoid ruffling certain feathers.

  7. I don’t get it. For the past weeks, we’ve been getting news about Finland wanting to join NATO, about resolute and decisive actions taken by Western countries and suddenly we have:

    – US and Poland afraid to send jets
    – Finland backtracking the joining of NATO

    Wtf is going on here.
