Oh wow, so this article isn’t even about electricity generation, only heating homes. And mostly about how expensive it will be to exchange gas boilers.
Europe’s gonna have a fun time with this energy crisis…
Good – there will be more for the rest of us.
With gas prices at an all time high we really need to start extracting again, even if just from the North Sea.
This will spell disaster for the Dutch flower industry.
Gas shortages are temporary, the glory of Rome is eternal
The hydrogen answer was given a bit of a short shrift. You can add hydrogen to gas to help reduce pollution for the short term whilst we are removing.
In the UK all gas appliances can deal with 23% hydrogen (volume) mix since 1996. We’ve already had a successful trial in a village (20% mix) and that’s recently been expanded, so we’re slowly rolling out to the rest of the country. https://techxplore.com/news/2021-09-uk-trial-hydrogen-blended-gas.html
It’s not quite flicking a switch to go to 100% hydrogen but the network is in place. Hydrogen is also a great dump for excess energy as a battery but heat pumps seem a better option long term for new builds and replacements.

*lets make turkey an energy hub to get out of russia’s influence*
europe realises that turkey is just as dickish as russia
*oh no invest more money on natural gas projects and throw all the molten salt reactors proposals to the trash can*
