And he’s not the only young royal to have developed a love for all things aquatic. On a trip to the re-opening of Birtley Community Pool last week, Prince William told Olympic and Paralympic swimmers (including Adam Peaty, Tom Dean, Maisie Summers-Newton and Louise Fiddes) that his eldest son, 11, is quite the underwater explorer. ‘George loves scuba diving,’ The Prince of Wales revealed: ‘He was ten years old, we took him under, thinking he’d freak out, but he absolutely loved it. It’s just introduced him to the world of water.’

Prince William is no stranger to scuba himself. As the Duke of Cambridge, the Prince followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, Prince Phillip, and his father, now King Charles, when he became president of the British Sub-Aqua Club, the UK’s scuba diving governing body, in 2014. Could we see Prince George take on the role as he grows into his royal duties?

As for where the Waleses might have explored this daredevil new hobby, it could have been while holidaying at one of their many beloved staycation spots. The family are known to enjoy a trip to Tresco Island, the second-biggest island of the Isles of Scilly, which offers the opportunity for dolphin watching, among other aquatic activities. The scenic spot, just off the coast of Cornwall, holds a special place in Prince William’s heart, as the Prince spent many a childhood holiday on Tresco with his parents, Princess Diana and King Charles. The family were spotted relaxing in the area during a 2020 getaway, with one onlooker at the time telling The Sun that ‘they seemed a normal family on holiday, intent on keeping themselves to themselves,’ and that ‘the place where they were staying was quite modest and certainly not hugely luxurious.’
