The unique print was in turquoise and boasted a piping tie belt that cinched her in at the waist. She accessorised the dress with a dainty gold pendant necklace and dazzling star-shaped earrings.

However, many royal fans complained that it looked too “busy”. One user took to X, formerly known as Twitter and wrote: “It’s a little busy for my taste, but she looks pretty.

“It’s a pretty dress, but it’s too busy for her body type. I’m not shaming, the cut is perfect for her just the stitching is too much, also I’m not a fan of peel-a-boo shoulders, especially for an event like this,” added another.

A third chimed in and agreed: “The picture does not do the look of this gown on her. I love everything but the sleeves. Just never fan of that open shoulder/half sleeve look.”

Her brunette locks were pulled back in a tousled half-updo, which no doubt Meghan Markle, 43, would approve of, as she donned a new beach wave look.

However, other fans disagreed and complimented the Princess. One person said: “Wow, what a change to her so well dressed. This dress fits her nicely; she looks very nice.”

Another wrote: “Gorgeous dress. It looks like it was inspired by a beautiful Japanese kimono. Eugenie looks lovely.”

A third added: “Such a beautiful gown & looks fabulous on her. Definitely worth a re-wear!”

Princess Eugenie took to Instagram and shared that she was “honoured” to be a part of the event which raised over £36,000 for the Royal British Legion.

She wrote to her two million followers: “‘Since its inception in 2010, it has raised over £1.5 million for the RBL. Fantastic work and I’m so proud to be a patron.”

She continued to upload a carousel of images, which saw her strike up conversations and pose with a series of guests.
