OK, I’m sure it won’t work for long, the public is in no mood for this.
I support them more than most, but sometimes I wonder what numpties make decisions there.
With all the love and kindness one can give… Not now.
I’d rather we stop pushing more and more people towards or even into poverty, if we have to burn a bit of oil to do so then that’s alright with me.
If we want “green energy” then get nuclear, the rest are a waste of time until the technology has improved substantially, “net zero” isn’t worth becoming a 3rd world country
Now? Really? Whoever’s in charge of their PR needs to be sacked. They literally could not have chosen a worse possible time to do this.
Ah yes. And as per usual out come the “this will turn people against them” “just affecting the little guy” “why don’t they protest affecting someone that actually has the power to change” sound bites.
As if blocking _oil refineries_ isn’t about as targeting systematic institutional targets as you can get.
Climate change is going to kill millions of people. Everyone supports actions to make the world greener, however when it comes to the tough choices of actually doing something about it or paying for it, everyone wants it to be someone else’s way of life being affected. People won’t even accept others protesting at oil refineries without bitching about it.
I am sure this would be a great way to get people on their side… 🤪
I mean it makes sense when it will literally cripple the country as it forces attention. Perhaps in the lead up to this they can protest outside Tory MP locations to pressure the government to rapidly invest in Greener energy in the wake of Russian sanctions.
Global governments : stop importing Russian oil
>I sleep
Protesters: stop importing any oil
>real shit
I’m generally indifferent to ER.
I think people get too worked up over their antics, which in the grand scheme of things, are pretty minimal.
And like everything else, I’m sure this will be pretty ineffectual.
But Christ, talk about not reading the room.
I’m sure Tarquin and Jezebell will have great fun eating their vegan canapés in the road and discussing who’s daddy has a nicer house in Mayfair whilst the rest of us put up with £20 petrol
Petrol hits £2 at the pump and £1.30 for domestic heating oil and these clowns think blocking refineries is going to win over support. Fuck off.
I think people misunderstand the aim of protests like this. The aim is to make life difficult for the general public so the public puts pressure on the government to fix the problem. However people don’t work like that and the anger is generally directed at protestors as it will be this time.
That said this is a stupid time to do this thing.
This is just going to fuck people, people are struggling with the cost of living as it is. What the fuck.
Yes I really don’t think with the entire Ukraine war anyone cares about this now. Would be much better timing to delay it by few months, they’d get more support and it’s not like their actions are gonna result in some immediate changes anyway.
This will hit the poorest people the hardest.
The homeless guy outside my office, I expect he has a petrol car. Our cleaner who cycles to work, his bicycle probably uses diesel. The council estate parents who walk their kids to our local school, maybe their shoes use petrol or they drink diesel or something. It certainly doesn’t hit the CEO of my company who drives a jaguar harder, it hits the little guy!
I think what would be more effective rather than causing a nuisance, may be demonstrating the value of switching to government sponsored investment in renewables.
If a plan was drawn up for a (realistic) strategy, for finding sites, changing public opinion, investment options from UK and worldwide providers of wind energy, logistics, learning and development for the next generation, and how to effectively risk manage the closure and disposal of coal powered stations. They may get a better response.
I know it sounds like a lot of work but that’s because it bloody well is, hence why government is struggling to come up with a strategy for switching. Maybe demonstrating value by showing an interest in the development of a cohesive solution.
Most people are miserable enough let alone having yet another inconvenience in their existence.
Can someone explain to me how we plan to feed the world if we can’t use natural gas to make ammonia.
Nice, so the next raise in Cost of Living will be directly on their heads, because we’re already getting fucked.

“WHY IS MY SHOOPING GOING UP” Fuel is used by Lorries and Freighters (BIG FUCKING SHOCK) blocking refineries will directly affect the fuel prices, therefore the cost of living goes up.

Climate change will kill you, or you can either starve, freeze or just kill yourself due to the ever growing cost of living and Energy bills and the stress they will all bring, nice to see Extinction Rebellion wanting to be part of something that can kill people, keeping to their namesake.

Expect panic buying and the roads to be blocked again due to people rushing to buy some petrol/Diesel.
Honest intentions. I hope the message is heard. That said I think governments and private sectors should be encouraged to invest in renewable energy and technology that goes with it. Electric cars need to be much more environment friendly (batteries etc) and homes using solar panels should have a big push. Wind farms need to be funded more (without disturbing locals communities and wildlife). The sad part about the above is energy companies and authorities dont really want these systems to take over because they can’t make a load of cash off it. Even though the industry and economic benefits it would bring (providing millions of jobs world wide) would benefit people and society so much. They need to stop worrying about short term gdp, share holders profit margins and making a quick buck while they are in office. They need to start running the world for future generations and beyond. This is all ideology and we are a long way away from implementing it.
Please don’t do this. Just go get a job as a fucking solar installer and sell your installed systems at cost.
…. what the actual fuck?
I’ve fully supported ER, but this takes the absolute PISS considering global events right now.
This will further impact the poorest among us, maybe very quickly… and they’re already fucked.
Mono-ideology, gets nobody anywhere.
I bet if XR stood in a field miles from anyone not doing anything there would still be complaints about them. Is this bad timing? Yes, sure. But when the bloody fuck is the right time gonna be, because if we’re not careful the future will look a lot more grim than people being unable to afford heating bills
Talk about bad timing for these clowns to start this.
Turn everyone against you, that’ll really help your case. Bloody idiots
Maybe they should just change strategy. Insulating Britain would be a great way to reduce energy costs and help with the war effort.
At least they are doing something. There is no good time, no bad time just time and it’s probably run out for the planet and everything, so that means not just humans, on it. The war in Ukraine shows how our dependence on fossil fuels affects everything.
No one is ever in the mood to leave their comfort or convenience. This protest group is just telling you the message.
When you realise that us plebs actually hold more power than the corporate world running the system then you might want to do something!
We just need to think now, what to do when prices go up..
And then when it happens you don’t have to be fist fighting your way for the tank of gas or bog roll.
There’s lots of “it’s not the right time” going around in this thread. It also happens with gun control advocacy after school shootings and police reform after cops murdering black people (American examples but you get my point).
What people fail to mention when they complain about the these protests is when the so called ‘good time’ is to start protesting. As it happens it never seems to come, and so nothing tends to change.
I see £2 per Litre in our future. Prices seldom come back down, thus making our current prices the new normal.
The news will report a “fuel shortage”, pushing everybody to panic again.

We’ve known about climate change for decades now. It’s taught in schools, there’s all sorts of media on it and it’s regularly in the news. At this point if you’re not already against all the shit we do, you never will be.
As long as they aren’t blocking commuters it’s fine by me.
Can you block the one near Southampton? I would love the slight pollution reduction. Then you just have to stop all the shipping too.
Who knows, maybe one day there could be local seafood that is safe to eat? Would also have to stop the water companies dumping sewage here.
