Financial support _designed to help disabled_ students is inaccessible _for disabled_ students. And it’s not just DSA. Personal independence payment (PIP) is also highly inaccessible for a disabled person to access. It fucking sucks
Oh my god, I was meant to get this at uni and there were so many forms to fill in and appointments to keep with pretty much no guidance at all that I never managed the correct configuration of stuff at the right time to get it
As a student going through this process *right now* the amount of red tape that I’m going through to try and recieve DSA is quite frankly exhausting. This is with the support of my university at the same time, while a PIP application is still in the works which also just doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I understand that these desks might be understaffed and over burdened, I can’t help but feel as though with as few applications that seem to actually go through it’s a preformative act the government can point to when people complain the about the lack of support for individuals with disabilities, whilst also making the criteria to actually fulfill it as difficult and indifferent as possible.
