Spain is on course to shatter its tourism record, having already welcomed 88.5 million international visitors by November 2024. And there’s more to come.
Spain’s Tourism surge fuels record-breaking revenue
Spain’s allure as a top travel destination has never been stronger. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), the country saw an impressive €118.7 billion in tourist spending between January and November—a 16.7% jump compared to last year. November alone brought in €7.7 billion, with visitor numbers surging by 10.3%.

Visitors stayed slightly longer too, with an average stay of 7.6 days, up from 7.4 days in 2023.
With December’s figures still to come, Spain is set to break the 90-million visitor mark, making 2024 a truly historic year.
Top destinations in Spain for International tourists
Not surprisingly, the usual favourites continue to dominate the tourism map:
Catalonia: Drew in 18.9 million visitors, a 9.9% increase from last year.
Balearic Islands: Hosted 15.1 million travellers, up by 6.1%.
Canary Islands: Attracted 13.8 million tourists, a rise of 9.6%.
In November, the Canary Islands stole the show, welcoming 25.6% of all international visitors. Catalonia came in second at 22.2%, followed by Andalucia with 13.7%. These regions also raked in the lion’s share of spending, with the Canary Islands contributing 28.6% of total tourism revenue in November.
Meanwhile, the Valencian Community continued its upward trajectory, despite being hit by severe October storms. Year-to-date, the region saw 11.2 million visitors, a 15.5% increase compared to 2023, although growth slowed slightly in November.
Evolving visitor trends in Spain’s tourism boom
Spain’s major tourist markets—the UK, France, and Germany—are still going strong, but there are some exciting changes on the horizon.
British tourists: Topped the charts with 17.5 million visitors, a 7.1% rise, and accounted for 18.1% of total spending.
French travellers: Up 11.5%.
German visitors: Increased by 8.5%.
November brought a standout performance from Italian tourists, with numbers climbing by an impressive 22% compared to the same month last year. British visitors continued to be the biggest spenders, dropping €1.16 billion in November, while Germans followed closely with €957 million, a 20.2% increase.
One of the most heartening trends this year has been the growing interest in Spain’s lesser-known destinations. November saw a 40.9% rise in visitors to areas off the beaten track. This reflects a broader shift as travellers explore Spain’s hidden gems, beyond its traditional tourist hubs.
With a record-breaking year in sight, Spain’s tourism industry shows no signs of slowing down. From world-famous destinations to emerging hotspots, the country continues to charm visitors from across the globe.
