How about half arab half ukrainians? Do they meet the asylum-worthiness criteria? Where is the percentage limit?

Psst you’re not supposed to say the quite part out loud.
This has become the realpolitik action of all major parties here in Germany for example
Despite whatever our Green party said previously I don’t see them stomping their feet to bring in more middle eastern immigrants (aka refugees even though they’re already in safe countries)
I kinda agree with him. Russia is responsible for the displacement of civilians from Syria, so they should be the ones taking them. Also young Arab men should make some space for Ukrainian women and children which, imo, should be prioritized
Ukraine is a neighboring country to EU. Middle-eastern countries are not.
People can shit on him all they want but this is the truth. Ukraine is right on ~~Europe’s~~ EU’s doorstep and is a lot closer culturally and ethnically to Europeans it makes no sense to prioritize people from Afghanistan and Africa over them.

People welcome similar cultures. It’s not hard to understand.
Oh look, somebody is actually saying what all other EU countries are doing!

While I’d love for nothing more than for zemmour to choke and bite the dust. Lets face reality. Muslim refugees come from a society that has a completely different culture than western countries. Over there, religion is basically law. Leaving behind their archaic culture and mindset is next to impossible. Sure some can integrate. But many of them chose to keep their way of life alive in the home. Do they try and integrate their children into the society they live in? No, they teach them about their own culture and raise them to be just like themselves.
Ukraine on the other hand is a lot closer to european values and culture. Doesn’t hurt that they geographically are very close too.

Good, much easier to integrate.
I feel for the people in the middle east suffering but help on the spot is the most pragmatic approach in order to ensure that internal conflicts in Europe both politically and culturally is as low as possible while still helping fellow humans.
He did not say that he would welcome them in France, he said that he would help Poland welcome those refugees as Poland is the place the Ukrainian refugees are mostly aiming for

For years now, French voters seem to have only two choices presented to them around election time: Bland, untrustworthy types like Macron or far right extremism.
The upside of this tragic war is that the European populists, that have gotten away with shady dealings and associations, are finally seen for what they are.

Opportunism at its finest. One week ago he was saying that France shouldn’t welcome ukrainian refugees.

Ukraine is a neighbouring country, virtually everyone coming from Ukraine is a refugee and not an economic migrant posing as one, most of the refugees are women, children, and the elderly, and there is little reason to expect that any of them would be a security threat. The refugees are all victims of an unjustified attack on their country.
Meanwhile, most of those that arried in 2015 were from countries far away, a large portion of those coming were not from Syria or other warzones and therefore were not refugees at all, but migrants trying to use the asylum system as an alternative to immigration, most of them were young men and did not to any extent represent the most vulnerable refugees, and among them were known to be terrorists and other extremists of all sorts. The refugees were coming from a messy civil war where it is hard to know who did what and who they supported during the war.
Those are the important differences to me. We don’t have to come up with some xenophobic or even outright racist talking points about Islam and Arab culture, these differences are plenty to explain why people generally are more welcoming towards Ukrainians than they are towards for example those that arrived in 2015.
