Cost of living crisis will prove ‘fatal’ for some families in poverty, MPs told

  1. Queue the inevitable comments of people saying there’s no such thing as poverty because benefit claimants have smartphones and all the rest of it…

  2. I had to give up work 4 years ago to look after my misses full time and our 3 kids, never thought I’d ever not be working, used to work a high paid job running a warehouse for a family business, the only reason we survive is because my partner gets pip, it’s the only reason we can afford to keep eating, the stress of being so poor makes illness even worse and has even started to effect my health both physically and mentally, worked so hard to pull myself out of the poverty I grew up in, I don’t know how I’m going to look after my family and give them any kind of life that’s actually worth living 💔

  3. MPs know and it is redundant to lecture them about the effects of the crisis. You don’t need to be an economic expert to know that people being unable to afford food and shelter will lead to deaths, we just don’t have a government with the compassion and empathy required to actively tackle the issue. The Tories might not actively want people to die, however they also have no urgency to stop deaths either.
