The guy was a hero, he was treated like complete crap. Thankfully the government recognises this and has apologised. It’s SICK how the poor guy was treated.
True story, my older sister is big into our family history and one day while I was on the phone to her she was like:
Her: “oh Tyrant, you’ll never guess who were related to?”
Me: “Who?”
Her: “Alan Sheerer!”
Me: “Thats amazing!”
Her: “You think?”
Me: “Of course, England legend, great pundit whats not to love?”
Her: “….Eh… pundit?”
Me: “Yeah Alan Sheerer!”
Her: “No not Alan Sheerer you deaf twat, Alan Turing!”
Me: “Oh…Ohhhhh. Oh well, yes thats arguably more impressive. But honestly, I can’t help but be a little disapointed it wasn’t Alan Sheerer.”
Her: “Youre a dickhead.”
Anyway in short. He’s my grandads second cousin or some guff.
But he is on the £50 note so he isn’t completely forgotten
