Essentially highlighting we shouldn’t expect too much.

What I find most interesting is that this is the first time (in a long time) where there has been overwhelming criticism of Kate in the comments (akin to what both Kate and Wills had during the years following their marriage). Even some slightly pro-Meghan comments are making an appearance which I find quite surprising tbh.

Choosing the televised, high profile appearances is not a good move.

  1. Color me shocked that the “work shy” Kate won’t be working much.

  2. Honestly not a surprise. Will be very curious to see how much this holds true in 2025 and what her end of the year count will be.

I do think there still is a lot of good will towards Kate and her having cancer. People can sympathize with her having surgery then being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy along with having young children but the question is how long will it last? The public sympathy will only last so long.

For most of the public 2024 for her was likely a pass, but what will her “polls” say at the end of 2025.

Im also very curious about Charles treatment, are we expecting a much shorter reign for Charles? that W&K have decided to just entirely step back and take the reputational damage banking on being able to reverse it when they become King and Queen.

ETA: this is not worth a whole post so I’m going to drop this here since we’re discussing the Wales, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14250835/George-Charlotte-Louis-Marlborough-College-Kate-Middleton.html. Allegedly the kids will all be going to Marlborough.

  3. As much as I would love her to step up to her role, I completely understand that she wants to dedicate herself almost completely to her family. Cancer is tricky, and there’s always the possibility of it coming back. And if that happens (god forbids) each second with family will be precious.

Also “pro Meghan comments”? Wtf does she have to do with this? Lol

  4. “But what they are working on is ways they can balance themselves as parents with being the Prince and Princess of Wales.”

They’ve said this for years and it’s always irritating because it’s so EASY for them to do engagements during the day and then still be home in time when the kids get out of school. They use the kids as an excuse to do the bare minimum work when in reality these kids are in full time school and both Kate and William have hours a day to work and many teams to support their household while they do so.

  5. Personally, I don’t think work shyness is driving this issue. Her body is really no longer the same after abdominal surgery. And it’s not easy to prepare your body and mind for public engagements if say, your gut microbiome has changed drastically. If Kate was more transparent about her issues, I really think she would be able to be able to make a difference to reduce stigma on a range of hidden chronic illnesses that affect so many people.

  6. I really hope figuring out a new PR strategy is on their list. I get taking steps back based on the year she and her family has had but I’m not sure how stating that flat out is going to go over well. People will empathize but it seems like something they could have left unsaid.

  7. Huh what are you talking about criticism from who daily Mail commentators lol they have always been brutal ? Which high profile televised events she attended ? Trooping and Remembrance weekend events are one of the most important royal events. The least she could do is attend them. She could have attend two state banquets and a diplomatic reception (most glamorous events of the year) or a movie premiere yet she didn’t attend any of those .

This article seems reveals nothing new. KP already said Kate will be back but not with her previous work load. William said she will try to do more this year.No one knows whats going to happen with her schedule. Considering she attended trooping and Remembrance Day events it’s likely she might attend big events like St Patrick’s day or Commonwealth service in the coming months.

I am glad they didn’t reveal anything about what she plans to do or attend. Bcoz we don’t know how her health fares and announcing things in advance and backing out at last minute will only stir up trouble like it did last year when they announced their tour to Italy and other place.

I can give Grace to Kate but hopefully William starts increasing his workload. Sophie Anne and Edward can only do so much. Instead of cherry-picking engagements he needs to start to doing more engagements especially those typical royal bread butter engagements which he seems to hate. He should expand the no. of causes . His approach of less patronages grates on my nerves so much. His old ill father is doing work for 200 patronages , going out there meeting large crowds and hosting multiple receptions and you are only focused on two causes . Earthshotprize and homewards can be there but the simple ribbon cutting engagements count a lot and make royals more visible. Why Wales and their team don’t understand this is beyond me . It’s such a short sighted strategy 🤦🏽‍♀️

  8. Depending on the kind of cancer, if it recurs she could have a very shortened life span. I could definitely see why working may not be a priority for the next few years.

  9. I have a friend who did preventive chemo for breast cancer. It was exhausting. Some good days but a lot of bad days. She stopped doing the preventive about Halloween and is still fatigued, sore, and her immunity is at an all time low. She catches everything. Constantly sick with something. Kate may be trying to build up her immunity and being with the public isn’t helpful.

The public is on a need to know with Charles and Kate. I’m not British so I’m not paying for them but I think patience is needed. We really don’t know what transpired last year.

  10. William and Kate just aren’t into the job. I know it’s a card they were dealt. But they lack public engagement, and always have. William is trying to be a man of the people, but it just isn’t authentic.

  11. It’s hardly a surprise. She’s been through a very harrowing time .

  12. And yet Charles is still undergoing treatments and is out doing his job.

  13. If they don’t want to do the job they should just shut it down after Charles. It’s a pity because royals have the power to do really good work and make people happy when they show up.

  14. When you’ve lost the Daily Mail comment section….

  15. Queen Elizabeth used to criticize both of them for. Eing woek shy but ever since Meghan has come along, no criticism of Kate’s little work effort has been allowed.

  16. Here’s the problem as I see it-

William and Kate have always lagged behind their older relatives in terms of their workload, but there was usually a good(ish) reason for it. However, there has been a series of events making it increasingly obvious that they need to either 1) increase their workload or 2) re-assess their positions:

The Queen has passed. Having the buffer of Charles between the Queen and himself benefited William for many years, because he wasn’t expected to take on the heavier Prince of Wales responsibilities.

William and Kate got a pass on a full-time schedule for many years because they had young children, but now their youngest child is nearly 7.

For better or for worse, Harry and Meghan are gone. Those were two people who could work engagements, attract press, keep up the visibility of the Royal Family, and act as lighting rods to take the heat off William and Kate.

William and Kate understandably got a pass for 2024 because of Charles’ and Kate’s illnesses.

People are going to get increasingly frustrated with the Waleses if things remain status quo. I understand if they want their privacy, work less, and raise their children normally, but part of the contract is that they shouldn’t be also entitled to the enormous wealth and privileges of a full-time royal. It won’t be enough to do flashy projects like Earthshot and the carol service and be absent for a majority of the time.

What they’re doing now is essentially the half-in/half-out arrangement the Sussexes were derided for requesting years ago.
