I remember when my Grandpa told me how his family had to escape from Königsberg when he was like 4 years. His father had to stay in the city and had to defend it with a couple of disorganized Volkssturm Youth Fighters but he told them to get the hell out of the city. Poor Bastard died one year later.
It’s a miracle that his family made it out of there otherwise I would have never been born.

There are way more areas in Silesia where people still speak German, up until today. The small green areas on the map don’t really tell the full story here.
