This is the sort of person that should be in the house of lords.
it’s never really occurred to me before but I guess lots of people who’d be eligible for benefits are simultaneously going to struggle to apply for them… kudos to her!
hell in my case I’ve been unemployed 2yrs now and not receiving any because I sorta just never get around to it, or get overwhelmed when I think about it (likely ADHD related), must be lotsa peeps like that out there :/
good argument for universal credit imo, too many hurdles to get peeps the help they need (probably by design knowing the tories ><)
Iain Duncan Smith has a knighthood, even after all he has done to those on benefits. This woman clearly deserves so much more for all she is doing to go against the system he helped to create.
People like her are brilliant.
My daughter is disabled and we have to get a charity to fill out our form every two years or we will go through 3 or 4 rejections. With the charity we still get one but they help us get the appeal won.
My daughter is fed through a tube, multiple learning difficulties that makes caring for her akin to a toddler but with the strength of a 11yo with no inhibition, could randomly collapse at anytime into a fit and spends at least 6weeks a year in hospital.as inpatient and is is under 6 doctors and has about 90 outpatients appointments a year minimum (including OT, Physio, specialist shoe/splint fittings)…and it’s genetic and she has brain damage so it is not like she will.get better
In the times they cancel the dla my wife also loses her carers allowance so we go through periods of serious reduction in income for 3months.
Without the charity filling in the 16page form with details of all her medical stuff (if you miss one they will faff on it) all her issues and make sure you are not British “it’s not that bad she could walk to the shop the other day” a sentence like that will mean no help despite the fact that on the other 350 days that would not happen.
Can we just have UBI instead so this sort of stuff isn’t needed?
Dwp seem to spend more time stopping people getting benefits than helping people.
Doesn’t seem right to me
