In the morning, the sun will still shine in places, but by mid-day, a wide area of precipitation will start to cross Latvia from southwestern Kurzeme. Snow will start to fall in Kurzeme around midday and in many parts of the country in the afternoon. There will also be some light showers at times as south-easterly winds pick up, gusting around 10 meters per second, and 15-17 meters per second in Kurzeme along the coast of the Gulf of Riga.

In the evening, snow will turn to rain starting in the southwest of Kurzeme, but air temperatures will still be below freezing, and ice will form.

All road users should be careful as this ice is particularly dangerous, forming on all surfaces and making roads very slippery.

Due to the freezing rain, an orange warning has been issued from January 6 at 17:00 until January 7 at 05:00. Ice will form not only on roads but also on other surfaces, including wires and tree branches, which will bend and break. The risk of power outages also increases significantly.
