Sturgeon: NATO shouldn’t rule out no fly zone over Ukraine | ITV News

  1. I wonder if she actually had the power if she would take the responsibility for starting WW3? She’s an incompetent and immature leader, any chance to score political points.

  2. Of course they shouldn’t completely rule it out, but it’s totally fucking stupid for such a senior politician to say it out loud. Publicly talking about going to war just makes war more likely.

  3. Idiotic political point scoring that ignores the gravity of what that move would mean for human life in Europe.

*”NATO enlargement is utterly misguided and risky. True friends of Ukraine, and of global peace, should be calling for a US and NATO compromise with Russia.”*

    – Jeffrey Sachs, Financial Times

  4. Imagine wanting to start a nuclear war to save the skin of a Ukranian president named in the Pandora papers leak. Fuck that shit.

A no fly zone certainly isn’t going to protect ukranian civilians

  5. Jesus this is giving me flashbacks to when Hilary Clinton was calling for a no flyzone over Syria by shooting down Russian aircraft.

The SNP has really called some stupid shit during this latest crisis, nuclear disarmament, preventing the expansion of North sea oil and gas and now this.

They need to take a breath before they speak as it’s undermining their party.

  6. And how does she wishes NATO enforce this? By shooting down Russian jets and directly get involved and triggering WWIII that will promptly end with a flash?

Ukraine, isn’t and I will say again for the fish, not a member of NATO.

  7. She needs to shut the fuck up. Wouldn’t even be her forces doing any of the work and not her writing the letters to the parents of the dead when WWIII gets triggered. Know your fucking place

  8. We don’t want nuclear weapons in Scotland because we’re scared of nuclear war, but please do the equivalent of declaring war on Russia, which will ultimately lead to nuclear war!

  9. Anything to appear as an alternative to the UK govt
Truly a case of separate at any cost. For a party hooked up with the Scottish Greens, who oppose NATO, and the SNP itself that has a long history of opposing it, it’s very rich to come out with a comment like this

  10. The same people who imposed ridiculous arbitrary covid rules for 2 years in order to ‘save lives’ are now arguing in favour of starting WW3.

  11. I agree with her. I understand why people are afraid of escalation, but ultimately it’s a subjective decision on what level of injustice we are willing to tolerate due to fear of people hurting us.

Back in the 1930s, many said it’s not worth risking a european war for Germany annexing Austria, then the Sudetenland, then the rest of Czechoslovakia. We know how that went. People say “we must not escalate”, but all I hear is “why die for danzig?”

Humanity needs to start getting things right. I understand the fear of nuclear armageddon, but the spectre of nuclear war will not just go away on its own. We need to start, resolutely, standing for absolute justice rather than realpolitik or narrow self-interest. We will either build a better world from that, or we’ll all die in flames. I don’t see any point in dithering about choosing that path because it’s going to be one or the other anyway. We are going to need to confront our divided and small-minded nature sooner rather than later, and nuclear war will be the consequence of failing that hurdle no matter – why not face that down now rather than allow wars of aggression to go on unchecked?

A brighter future is the hope. To die in nuclear armageddon, standing for a just world, would be righteous. To live, head buried in the sand in cowardice, is worthless.

  12. It wouldn’t even be a matter of shooting down Russian planes in Ukrainian airspace, since their (really very good) surface to air missiles can cover nearly all of Ukraine from within Russian and Belarusian territory.

We’d have to attack Russian assets in their own territory. That’s just not happening.

  13. Stupid, stupid woman. She should stick to her day job of being the head of a glorified County Council and stop sticking her nose into things that are not within her remit and she knows nothing about.

A no-fly zone means putting the RAF, USAF and others into the position of potentially engaging Russian aircraft and targeting ground based missile systems in both Ukraine and Russia itself.
