We have a fixed contract with Engie, for a couple of years already. Every year, we get new prices. On 1/3, our contract got renewed. We have three meters, a day, night and exclusive night one.
The new prices:
Day: 32c/kWh
Night: 25c/kWh
Night exclusive: 25c/kWh
Our usage between 2/11 and 8/3:
Day: 1061 kWh
Night: 1040 kWh
Exclusive night: 994 kWh
If I look at [mijnenergie.be](https://mijnenergie.be), I see that moving to Engie Direct (Variable) would change my prices to:
Day: 20c/kWh
Night:16c/kWh
Exclusive night: 16c/kWh.
Is it correct to conclude that I have to change immediately? Or is this not a good moment to switch to a variable contract, given the energy crisis and situation in Ukraine?

Remember that mijnenergie shows the prices with an already calculated reduction. (Only via mijnenergie) So if you switch soon after you might not receive that reduction and pay more than advertised.
I recommend using http://vtest.vreg.be
This website will give you the correct prices with no middle man like mijnenergie. (Although those day/night/exclusive prices are the same I’m getting on the vreg site)
Variable might be cheaper now but who knows next month. I hesitated in December but took a fixed contract at (day: 21 / night: 15 / gas: 8). In hindsight I’m very happy I did that 🙂
You need to read the small print in their [price description](https://www.engie.be/api/engie/be/ms_1/pricing/v1/public/pricesAndConditionsPDF?document=E_DIRECT_R_GREY_C_F_12_V_F&monthOffset=0&segment=R&language=F).
The prices advertised are based on the February index (162.64 EUR/MWh), the March index is currently around 360.42 EUR/MWh, it’s based on the average price of the month, so not the final value.
If the March index stays around 360 EUR/Mwh, you are looking at 40ct/kWh day + VAT + network fees.
I would keep the fixed contract and review the situation monthly.

What is the point of an exclusive night meter? Isn’t it the same as a normal circuit with a timer to trigger at night & weekends?
I always use [https://www.aanbieders.be/](https://www.aanbieders.be/) to change energy providers. They help you to make a good decision and do most of the paperwork. I change every year so i benefit from the new customer reduction. mostly switched between Engie and Luminus fixed contracts. my 1 year contract is due in June so i will be looking out for a change soon. This year it wont be cheaper then my current contract. But always good to compare.
