NATO chief praises Turkey’s efforts, calls it key ally

  1. Turkey has done more than a lot of countries with them sending drones to Ukraine which has shown effectiveness.

  2. Turkish government being totally irresponsible most of the time (super high inflation, shutting down of recent women’s day marches, invades other countries, limits free speech etc.) has just received one praise. Should we change our view of their government?

I’ll leave it up to you to decide.

  3. It for sure came out of an unexpected corner for me, especially after the last years. But very great that Turkey does this and has the balls to say fuck it Putin we gonna send some drones.

  4. I remember not too long ago people on Reddit were convinced Turkey and Russia were best buddies.

  5. And to think Europeans wanted to kick Turkey out of NATO. Then again they said the USA was the biggest threat to Europe and NATO should be dissolved. I guess we’re all supposed to forget that.

  6. We should leave NATO, honestly. It already showed it’s true colors by pulling out the anti-air systems like the Patriot when Turkish-Russian relations were dire in 2016 when the Russian jet was shot down.

Fuck Russia, but we should not be the “soldier on demand”.

  7. Too bad they’re still [jailing journalists for “insulting Erdogan”](/r/europe/comments/tbpoco/turkey_sentences_journalist_to_prison_ruling_she/) but we’ll let it slide, we should focus on the bigger dictator around these parts of the world.

  8. I wouldn’t give too much praise to Turkey for its actions in general, but it is fair to give them credit for their help to Ukraine. A key ally when it comes to Ukraine? Sure, and worthy of mention and praise. A key ally in general? I wouldn’t be too eager to say that, with their saber rattling with Greece and ultra-nationalism in general.

But then, my country is not (yet) in NATO, so I suppose it is not my business who NATO praises.

  9. Closing the straits only after all Russian ships have already crossed

Blocking NATO war ships from (potentially) entering the black sea

Refusing to support sanctions against Russia

    Yep, key ally…

  10. Yeah, their Bayraktars are legendary now. They also prevented ships from entering, as I understood? My opinion changed direction 180 so far. Thank you, Turkey, from EU! NATO!

  11. What a load of diplomatic BS. Erdogan is a strongman just like Putin, Orban and the Polish one. But I’ve never heard Stoltenberg say anything interesting to be honest.
