I think Sweden doesn’t even need to join NATO, because if Russians would’ve wanted to strike Finland, they would get dragged in the war anyway.
I wish the EU army option was on the table, already. So it wouldn’t be NATO or nothing.
Our ministers and president who visited USA seem to be under the impression that time for joining NATO was in the past, NATO does not currently accept new members because it would escalate a conflict NATO wants to de-escalate. But yes, Finland should try to join if the window ever opens again.

This is the Estonian Ambassador to Finland saying that there is only a small window to join NATO.
I’m not sure how true this is or what insight an ambassador from anywhere would have on what (or even whether there is) a window for joining NATO would look like. No disrespect to the man, but historically, it’s been Germany/France vetoing, so I’d listen to what Germany and France were saying. It’s Western Europe, by and large that wants to limit access to the club.

I’ll tell you a secret. Finland will not join NATO because we still suffer from finlandization. Some wounds heal slowly I guess. Then when we are in need of NATO, want to join NATO but can’t join NATO (see Ukraine) I’ll come here to tell I told you so.

The level of complacency is weird. That’s like under the Merkel government in Germany where all warnings from CEE states and the USA about Russia becoming more aggressive were ignored.
Finland can swap with the US, this works for everyone.
I think it would benefit whole Europe if NATO countries let Finland join quickly. Another war in Finland would effect negatively whole Europe again just like this Ukraine war. If we are in NATO then Russia wont attack here.

If I was Finland/Sweden I’d be denying even wanting to join. Right up to the point where a quick deal can be announced.
The obvious time to announce the deal would be the NATO Madrid summit in June. Where their entry could be ratified almost immediately.
