Youth from Kaithal held hostage in Belarus, parents call SOS

KAITHAL: A youth from Haryana’s Kaithal district allegedly has been held hostage in Belarus, a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. The victim, who was promised a job in Germany, was allegedly duped of Rs 8.5 lakhs by an agent.
According to reports, the youth was lured by the agent’s promise of a lucrative job in Germany. The agent demanded Rs 8.5 lakhs as a fee for facilitating the youth’s travel and employment. The youth’s family borrowed money from relatives and friends to pay the agent’s fee.
However, instead of being sent to Germany, the youth was taken to Belarus, where he was held hostage. The victim’s family received a distress call from him, informing them about his precarious situation.
The victim alleged that he was subjected to physical torture and harassment by his captors. He claimed that his captors burned his skin with cigarettes and forced him to work in inhumane conditions.
The victim’s family has appealed to the Indian government to intervene and rescue their son. They have also filed a complaint with the local police, urging them to take action against the agent who duped them.
Kaithal police booked the agent after getting a complaint by the victim’s father identified as Ahmad, a native of Kharaudi village of Gulha town against the accused Kamal Preet and Ankita under section immigration act (24), 316 (2) 318 (4) and launched a probe into the matter. However, no arrest has been mad so far.
