Nela Lopusanova is excelling on the world stage — again.
The 16-year-old Slovakian phenom had three assists on Tuesday in her team’s 5-3 loss to Switzerland at the world women’s under-18 hockey championship in Finland.
Despite playing on an 0-3 team, Lopusanova leads the tournament in scoring with four goals and four assists. She has a point on every goal for her team.
If this sounds familiar, it should.
Two years ago, at age 14, Lopusanova led the world under-18 championship in scoring.
Lopusanova’s best game so far at this year’s tourney came Sunday when she had a hat trick in a loss to Czechia.
Lopusanova will likely need more heroics next time out for her team to have any chance of staying close to the unbeaten U.S. in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Lopusanova is playing high school hockey at Bishop Kearney in Rochester, N.Y. She is slated to begin playing in the NCAA at Wisconsin in 2026.
Unfortunately for fans, Slovakia did not qualify for the top division of the world women’s hockey championship in April in Czechia.
Slovakia will try to qualify for next year’s worlds at a tournament in China in April.
Hockey, meanwhile, isn’t the only athletic pursuit for Lopusanova.
The Buffalo Bills named Lopusanova their girls flag football national player of the year nominee for her play at Bishop Kearney earlier this month.
